Standard pumps are shipped with Type-F (PTFE/leather) hydraulic packings. These are suitable for most general finishing coating materials and solvents. Optional packings are available for use with other coating materials and solvents. Refer to the Packing Gland Material Guide and Packing Gland Selection Chart in Section A-1, Quick Reference, to select and order the correct packing glands for your coating material. For more information, contact the Nordson Finishing Customer Support Center or your local Nordson representative. Pump Operation See Figure B 2-1. The 64B pumps are demand-type, double acting pumps. A demand-type pump starts when the fluid pressure in the system falls below the pressure the pump can produce with the available air pressure. The pump stops when the fluid pressure equals the pressure the pump can produce with the available air pressure. A double-acting pump pressurizes and pumps coating material on both the suction stroke and the pressure stroke. The pumps consist of an air motor (17) and hydraulic section (16). The air motor powers the pump. The shifter mechanism (1) and air valve (2) control the direction of the air piston (6), connecting rod (7), and hydraulic plunger (10). The upper and lower packings (12 and 13) prevent coating material from leaking past the plunger. The siphon ball check (15) and pressure ball check (14) valves control the flow of fluid through the hydraulic section.
